What are the steps to coating by yourself?

Coatings consist of different materials that are used on a surface to protect it from rust and provide an aesthetic appeal. Coatings are predominantly used to enhance the beautification of both interior and exterior of all buildings including individual homes.

Let us for instance assume you want to coat your garage floorings. The procedure is quite simple, provided you have the requisite materials like shielding outfits, rubber gloves, working goggles, scrub sponge or brush, a broad, flat, paintbrush, tin bucket, respirator with filters, paint roller preferably of medium size, extension handle for paint roller; paint tray; concrete degreaser, concrete sealer and an electric fan.

Even before beginning your coating process, wear you're protecting outfits such as goggles, respirator mask with filters and rubber gloves. Please remember that when coating the garage floor, it is likely you may come in contact with many harmful chemicals emanating from coating garage floor that may injure your eyes, skin and even your lungs.

Epoxy flooring is ideal for garage floor coatings as it not only presents a neat look but also resists oil stains, water beads, and all other types of dirt and if dust a garage floor is most susceptible to. Coating your garage floor with epoxy calls for no expertise and you can do it as well. Etch, clean and seal the concrete and thereafter apply the epoxy and color chips and lastly apply a clear topcoat.

If these four steps are done sequentially, the epoxy garage floor coatings would last for quite a few years and retain its sheen. Please make it a point never to undertake epoxy flooring when an exterior or air temperature is below 50°F (10°C). When you are coating the garage floor, if the door is perchance opened the toxic vapor might cause respiratory problems. To prevent this, switch on the electric fan to disperse all the toxic air.

Powder coating is the modern day coating technology and to powder coat a surface a powder material is applied using an electrostatic or compressed air method, or sometimes a fluidized bed. The applied powder is then heated/ cured in a furnace/ oven to its melting point. Thereafter a smooth film is formed which dries to a firm, durable finish. Powder coating resists scratches, cracks, peelings, UV rays and rust.

The entire powder coating process involves several steps. No matter how carefully you do the powder coating, certain defects are likely to occasionally occur. It is not possible to do the powder coating yourself as it is an advanced method that can be done only in a felly-equipped workshop and preferably by skilled workers.

Various formulations of powder coatings are available to provide extra protection from corrosion, abrasion, and chemicals. Some types are even approved for use by the FDA in food grade applications.

Powder coating is the rage today and it has become the preferred choice for all types of metal furniture, lawn mowers, bicycles, kitchen appliances and vehicles. Powder coatings are available in an amazing variety of decorative colors and textures to satisfy all individual tastes. In many cases, goods are specifically marked as "Powder Coated" as it projects a certificate of quality.
